BRAZILIAN BOOKS AND THE BROAD Code: 5256

This new tour pairs two of downtown L.A.'s newest destinations - featuring eclectic art and an elegant lunch - a true feast for your eyes and your belly! It was in the works for years...it's complicated architecture created construction delays after delays...but when it debuted in 2015, The Broad blew away all expectations and not only changed the landscape of downtown L.A. but changed the way the museum's display art. The $140 million contemporary art museum financed by billionaire philanthropists and art collectors Eli and Edythe Broad is the repository for some of the most expensive artwork on the planet - most of it from the Broads' personal collection of over 2,000 pieces - it is one of the most prominent holdings of contemporary art worldwide. With only 250 pieces on display at one time, each visit here presents new opportunities to question, debate, and appreciate. Enjoy approximately 90 minutes at leisure to explore on a self-guided visit with a VIP (no waiting) entrance. This afternoon we enjoy an included lunch at Fogo de Chao, the authentic Brazilian Steakhouse that opened in this downtown location in 2015. The Brazilian steakhouse tradition begins at the Market Table where you can return as many times as you like for fresh seasonal salads, exotic vegetables, imported cheeses, smoked salmon, cured meats, seasonal soup, and more. Once you're seated, the authentic Brazilian side dishes arrive - warm pao de queijo (cheese bread), crispy polenta, mashed potatoes, and caramelized bananas. Set your dining card to green and you're in the rodizio - continuous tableside service of signature cuts of meat prepared, fire-roasted and served by the gaucho chefs. The tableside service of signature cuts of meat prepared, fire-roasted and served by the gaucho chefs. The variety of meats include top and bottom sirloin, chicken (breast, bacon-wrapped breast and legs) and the slow roasted and savory pork sausage. In Brazilian culture, this is all part of the grilled-meats feasts from the street to churrascarias like Fogo de Chao, where they honor gaucho tradition, one carved slice at a time. Be sure to leave room for dessert - family-style platters with bite size New York cheesecake, Key lime pie, chocolate mousse cake and turtle cheesecake. Enjoy time at leisure at the Last Bookstore, the iconic L.A. bookstore housed in the grand atrium of what was once a bank. The bookstore specializes in reasonably priced used books, and takes great pride in offering a selection of well-kept vintage books as well. Anyone who has ever loved a vintage book will know exactly what that means for the musty, decadent smell that hangs in the air in the seemingly sacred place. There is a section of hardbacks arranged by color. Most of the fiction is purposefully unarranged, meant to inspire treasure hunts among shoppers. Every book in the upstairs section is $1. In short, every inch of the place is designed to make book lovers fall in love with it, and it succeeds!
