Two Placentia residents are among those chosen for the Congressional Gold Medal Award, Congress’ highest youth honor.
Neil Kamdar and Seungmin Lee of Placentia were among the elite youth chosen as 2018 Gold Medalists from the 39th Congressional District.
The Congressional Award is an award for young Americans, established by the United States Congress in 1979 to "recognize initiative, service, and achievement in young people." It is non-partisan, voluntary, and non-competitive and open to all youth ages 13 to 23.
The Congressional Award recognizes the setting and meeting of goals in four program areas: Voluntary Public Service, Personal Development, Physical Fitness, and Expedition/Exploration. Based on time commitments to each of the areas, participants earn Bronze, Silver, or Gold Congressional Award Certificates and Bronze, Silver, or Gold Congressional Award Medals.
The 2018 Gold Medal Ceremony will take place in Washington, D.C. on June 21st, with a special event for Gold Medalists and their families on June 22nd. This annual ceremony will celebrate nearly 400 of America’s most deserving youth who have dedicated years of goal-setting and determination to earn Congress’ highest honor.
The Congressional Award is Congress’ first and only award specifically for youth. Congratulations to our local youth winners!
