Councilmember Craig Green and his family have lived in Placentia for 25 years. Craig is married to his wife, Beverly, and they have three children that all attended PYLUSD schools and graduated from El Dorado High School. Two graduated from Cal State Fullerton and one from the Orange County Sheriff’s Regional Training Academy. Craig is retired from a career in the residential mortgage business and he has been very active in the Placentia Community for over 14 years. As one of the founding member of “Citizens For A Better Placentia” Craig was involved in helping to expose the OnTrac project for the boondoggle it was.
Craig is also a proud Navy veteran having served both as an enlisted man and as an officer. As enlisted, he served aboard amphibious ships and he made two deployments to Viet Nam. When his enlistment was up, Craig re-entered college and graduated from Cal State Fullerton with a bachelor’s degree in Political Science. Craig was accepted to Navy Officer’s Candidate School and upon graduation was commissioned an Ensign. He attended Navy Surface Warfare Officer’s School and after many months of training, standing watches and studying aboard the navy’s largest amphibious ship, Craig received his designation as a Surface Warfare Officer. Later on, as a Navy Lieutenant, Craig attended Navy Department Head School where he received advanced education in Management, Training and Administration. Craig served in a myriad of assignment and positions during his time in the Navy including Division Officer, Ship’s Admin Officer, Command Public Affairs Officer, Officer of the Deck, Ship’s Weapons Coordinator, Boat Group Commander, Assistant Combat Information Center Officer, Assistant Training Officer at the U.S. Naval Academy and Special Assistant to Commandant, Naval District, Washington, D.C. His tour in Washington, D.C. included some very unique assignments one of his favorites was becoming the Liaison Officer between retired Admiral H.G. Rickover, father of the Nuclear Navy, and the Commandant of the Naval District, Craig’s direct boss.
Shortly after their first son was born, Craig resigned his commission and entered the residential mortgage business where he worked for over 25 years with offices in San Diego and Brea. Craig was also a senior staffer for the California State Assembly’s 72nd Assembly District and he served as the Placentia City Treasurer. Craig is serving, or has served, on the Citizen’s Financial Oversight Committee, the Planning Commission, the Oversight Board to the Successor Agency (eliminated Redevelopment Agency), the Orange County Fire Authority Board of Directors, the Placentia Community Foundation Board of Directors and the Placentia Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. Following 4 years as City Treasurer, Craig ran for, and was elected, to Placentia City Council in 2014 and was Mayor Pro Tem in 2015/2016 and served as Mayor in 2016/2017. Councilmember Green is always available to meet with anyone with questions or seeking information about the City.
