THE BEACH HOUSE & BUTTERFLIES Code: 5711
Marion Davies Bach Guest House & Butterfly Pavilion
We begin our whimsical day in Santa Monica with a docent-guided tour of the Marion Davies Beach Guest House - the last remaining original structure from the property that was developed in the 1920's by William Randolph Hearst for his girlfriend, actress Marion Davies (the structure that was her actual home was destroyed in the 1994 Northridge earthquake). The Guest House was a hot spot when Hearst and Davies entertained Hollywood's biggest stars on the property. The original tile and beautiful moldings along with the estate's original swimming pool give a glimpse into the home's glamorous past. After time at leisure for lunch on your own in downtown Santa Monica at Santa Monica Place or Third Street Promenade, we'll venture to Exposition Park and "flutter" over to the Butterfly Pavilion, a favorite seasonal exhibit at the Natural History Museum. Located on the outside of the Museum, the newly refurbished exhibit space features more flight space, more resting spots, and more natural light for the free-flying butterflies inside. As you explore this space at your own pace, more than 30 butterfly species native to North America and moths will be up-close and personal. Enjoy time at leisure to browse the museum's permanent exhibits, including the renowned Dinosaur Hall - one of the most extraordinary exhibits of its kind in the world. Suggested: walking shoes as there is considerable walking and stairs on this tour.

On this educational, guided tour, you'll see a wide range of wildlife including reptiles, birds, monkeys, lions, tigers, alligators, bear and a black panther - with the added bonus of watch a feeding demonstration.
