To be eligible to vote in an election, voter registration must be completed at least 15 days prior to the election date. Once registered, voter status remains active unless updated due to a change in residence, name, or political party preference.
Eligibility to Register to Vote
To register to vote in California, a person must be:
- A United States citizen and resident of California,
- 18 years old or older on Election Day,
- Not currently serving a state or federal prison term for the conviction of a felony, and
- Not currently found mentally incompetent to vote by a court.
Register to Vote or Update Voter Information
Residents can register to vote, check voter registration status or update their voter information online through the Orange County Registrar of Voters. Paper registration forms are also available at City Hall, public libraries, post offices, and the Registrar of Voters office.
Voting Options
All registered voters will receive a vote-by-mail ballot before Election Day. Ballots can be returned by mail, dropped off at an official ballot drop box, or delivered in person to any vote center or the Registrar of Voters office. In-person voting is available at any vote center in Orange County, with early voting and extended hours offered for added convenience.
