Recycling in Placentia

What is Recycling?

Recycling is the practice of recovering used materials from the waste stream and then incorporating those same materials into the manufacturing process to create new products.

Local Materials Recovery Facility (MRF)

Located nearby in the City of Anaheim, Republic Services' Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) processes recyclables and organics in an effort to achieve state recycling goals and divert materials the landfill to sustain the environment. The state-of-the-art technology, combined with the live support of staff members, allows for an efficient sorting process. Recyclable materials arrive at MRF from many sources including businesses, homes, curbside collection, public or self-hauling, public drop-off, and collection centers.

Curbside and Commercial Recycling
Curbside recycling, offered through Republic Services, uses three 96-gallon containers for single-family residents. If/when requesting a cart replacement, Republic services may provide you with a cart unlike the one you have had. This is a requirement from the State of California.

In the future, all carts will have a green body and will be distinguished by the color of their lid and the instructions provided on it. Please see below for the changes. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the City's Environmental Services Coordinator at (714) 993-8123 or cnguyen@placentia.org.

Updated Cart Colors

Commercial recycling is offered to businesses and multi-family residential dwellings.

Collecting materials is only the first step toward making the recycling process work. It takes a community effort to properly recycle and ensure materials disposed of in the recycling container are free of contaminants (empty, clean and dry).

Successful recycling also depends on manufacturers making products from recovered materials and consumers purchasing products made of recycled materials. Do your part and buy products made of recycled materials whenever possible. For more information on how to increase your diversion, and to obtain information other current waste-related matter, check out the most recent issue of the Annual Newsletter.

Hazardous Waste

Hazardous waste materials contain corrosive, toxic, ignitable, or reactive ingredients and need to be handled with care. Do not dispose of these materials in any of the waste bins. Residents can take them to one of the four Household Hazardous Waste Collection Facilities in Orange County. The closest location for Placentia residents is: 1071 N Blue Gum St, Anaheim, CA 92806. While you are there, ask them for a free battery collection bucket - available while supplies last.
